Windows Live Maps : The Pushpin Project
Guerilla Installation / Interactive
Brief
Windows Live Maps has this awesome collection functionality that nobody knew about. A way to virtually plan out your day right on the map and create personal collections of your favorite restaurants, thrift stores, or cupcake shops to share with friends.
Execution
We took the pushpins right out of the map and made them larger than life, showing people how Windows Live Maps worked on street level. We created our own collections and placed actual 30 foot tall push pins (the Maps icon) on our favorite local indie businesses and called attention to Windows Live with wild postings, handouts and signage on each ?pinned? location. Everything we posted and handed out pointed back to a microsite, thepushpinproject.com, which utilized the Maps functionality right there.
Result
Not only did we get thousands of hits to the site within the first week, driven only from the installations, but many of the local businesses targeted saw their revenue drastically improved that month. The campaign was also recognized by the One Show that year.
